Vidya Joshi hail from a modest upbringing, nurtured in a simple household, and integrated into a middle-class family through marriage. As the inaugural entrepreneur in both sides of my family, I’ve perpetually aspired to be self-sufficient and provide for my dear ones.
As a mother of three, I grew increasingly worried about my children's dietary choices, particularly their inclination towards junk food. This concern inspired me to envision a way to offer healthy and nourishing food options that are accessible, affordable, and enticing for all age groups.
Coming from a lineage of farmers, I was raised on millets and recognized their health advantages. I shared my vision with a family friend who practices Ayurveda. Together with a committed team of specialists in food science, nutritional health, and Ayurveda, we crafted a line of gluten-free millet products. This adventure culminated in the birth of our brand, Nutrimillet, which delivers the finest in nutrition and flavor. Initially, there was a perception that millet products were solely for those with limited means.
We faced the challenge of dismantling this stereotype and demonstrating that millet snacks are for everybody. Many were unaware of the benefits of gluten-free snacks, prompting us to educate the public on their health advantages. Education has become a pivotal aspect of our mission. The pandemic dealt a severe blow. Launching our production during the lockdown proved to be a formidable task. Retailers were cautious about new offerings, and the traditional 'Cash and Carry' approach was rendered ineffective. We needed to adjust, contending with cash flow dilemmas and inventory hurdles.
The first year saw losses, and circumstances became so dire that personal jewelry was liquidated to sustain the business. However, the following years reversed our fortunes. Sales skyrocketed to 12 lakhs, and profits approached 25%. In 2022, we elevated the venture by formalizing it as a Pvt. Ltd. company. We now have approximately 2000 families engaged from metropolitan, urban, and rural areas.
